Bulldogs clinch playoff berth with pounding of Los Altos

The Los Altos Conquerors have no doubt been the surprise team this year in the Hacienda League. After a dismal 0-10 record in 2011, Los Altos was now sporting an impressive 6-2 record this year going into their match with the defending champion Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs quickly brought the Conquerors back to reality.

West Covina showed their usual punishing ground attack and added a little air show to the evening, while breezing to an easy 42-24 victory. The Bulldogs defense was quite impressive in stopping the potent Los Altos running game.( The Conquerors scored their final two touchdowns when the game was pretty much decided, and the Bulldogs were substituting heavily).

Here are some highlights.

Bulldogs down Bearcats, stay unbeaten in Hacienda

The Varsity Bulldogs knew that the Bonita Bearcats had them circled on their calendar this season. The only problem was that Bonita did not have the firepower that the 2010 team had.

Bonita opened the game with some trickery and attempted an onside kick that took a terrible Bearcat bounce and was returned for a touchdown by Joseph Rubio of the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs controlled the 1st half and took a 17-0 halftime lead into the intermission.

The Bonita Bearcats showed some heart by closing the gap to 17-14, but the Bulldogs shifted into another gear and put the game away with three unanswered scores. The final score ending with the Bulldogs on top 38-17.

Bulldogs Rushing Attack Too Much For Diamond Bar

The opening league match between the Bulldogs and the Brahmas of Diamond Bar was a classic case of the run vs the pass. The Bulldogs showed that the good old fashioned running attack can still upstage an aerial assault.

Chris Solomon and Jimmy Frazier led the Bulldogs to a convincing 35-17 win over the home team Brahmas. The Brahmas big weapon was quarterback Henry Omana who threw two touchdown passes, but was pressured all night by the Bulldogs defense.

Diamond Bar moved the ball in the opening drive , but had to settle for a field goal (an impressive 47 yarder). The Bulldogs then scored 21 unanswered points to lead 21-3 at halftime.

Unlike the three previous wins , the Bulldogs were never seriously threatened in the second half.

Below are some highlights of the game.
