The CIF Southeast Championship game played last Friday night was as ugly as the grass it was played on. Of course, I am speaking from a La Serna point of view when I say that.

The defending champion Bulldogs set a CIF record for most points in a finals game by scoring 12 touchdowns, en route to a 84-21 thrashing of La Serna. The Bulldogs rushing attack was just too fast and overpowering for the Lancers, scoring 7 times on plays that went 40 yards or more.

The Bulldogs defense was stellar as well, totally intimidating the Lancers by forcing fumbles and interceptions throughout the contest.

It was an incredible night for the Bulldogs and their fans (despite the mediocre venue, poor parking, and annoying La Serna announcer).

Thanks for the memorable experience in watching you play football this year Bulldogs!

Here are some highlights.

In front of a nice crowd in a nice stadium, the West Covina Bulldogs ran past the Matadores of La Mirada 63-34, in the Southeast Semi-Finals.

La Mirada struck first with a field goal after a opening kickoff return that set them up inside the Bulldog’s 25 yd line. That would be the last time the Matadores would see the lead as Lonzel Barnett took the ensuing kickoff 98 yards for a score that would set the tone for the game.

The Bulldog’s big play offense was just too much for La Mirada , who scored enough to win most games, but had no answer for Chris Solomon (5 tds) and Co.

The Bulldogs also survived some questionable calls from the officials, and a clock operator who took it upon him/her self to stop the clock when they wanted to (allowing La Mirada to run one more play before the half , in which they scored).. more on that below.

The West Covina Bulldogs will now face La Serna (winner over Muir 28-3) in the Finals of the Southeast Division on December 9th.

Here are some highlights. Note: Apologies to Aarron Franklin that his 99 yard td kickoff return is not included, there was some equipment failure that prevented this. Chris Solomon’s final td of the night is not in for the same reason.

Also, check out 4:30 into the video. La Mirada had 5 seconds on the clock when they ran this play, after the play was over (incomplete pass) they still had 1 second left. Keep in mind that the clock operator should not stop the clock until signaled by an official.

The play took closer to six seconds than four. Now that’s home field advantage.

It was the Bulldogs vs the Bulldogs, but when the dust settled West Covina came out as the top”dog”of the night.

The Pasadena Bulldogs pretty much gift wrapped a couple of touchdowns for West Covina by shanking a punt( 8 yards net) after going 3 and out on their opening drive, and then muffing the kickoff to give the ball right back to West Covina inside the 10 yard line.

It probably did not matter much as the West Covina Bulldogs scored at will and built up a 42-6 halftime lead. West Covina then put it on cruise control and substituted heavily in the final quarter. The final score ending at 55-12.

West Covina must now face La Mirada on the road (and if victorious) will face the winner of the Muir/La Serna game for the Southeast Championship.

Here are some highlights.

West Covina began the Southeast Division Playoffs as the number one seed. The Bulldogs lived up to that ranking by dominating the Norwalk Lancers at Thyberg Field.

West Covina scored quickly and often and built up a 38-0 lead going into the 4th quarter. Norwalk escaped being shutout by scoring a touchdown in the final minutes of the game. The final score ending at 38-8.

The Bulldogs move on to the quarterfinals now and will  now face Pasadena High next.
